Traffic police in the Brest region used gunfire to stop a drunk Volvo driver, the Interior Ministry’s press service reported. The incident occurred near the village of Yanava in the Baranavichy district.

The driver ignored a signal to stop and continued driving. He did not respond to repeated demands to pull over and attempted to flee, creating a danger to other road users. Officers decided to use their service weapon.

The driver turned out to be a 39-year-old resident of the Minsk region showing signs of intoxication. A medical examination found more than 1 promille of alcohol in his system. It was established that the man had been stripped of his driver’s license and had repeatedly been held liable, including criminally, for drunk driving. He now faces a fine of up to 200 basic units.

The owner of the car was also in the vehicle. A protocol was drawn up against him for handing control of the car to a drunk driver. He faces a fine of 50 to 100 basic units and a three-year driving ban.

Both men were placed in a temporary detention facility. The car was taken to a secured impound lot.
