The Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO) will develop a model law on the protection of electoral sovereignty. The announcement was made by Igor Sergeenko, Speaker of the House of Representatives, who took part in a session of the organisation’s Parliamentary Assembly.

He said that a new five-year programme had been adopted.
“The most important issues include ensuring cybersecurity, biological security, the use of artificial intelligence, the protection of electoral sovereignty, and many others,” he stated.

According to Syarhiyenka, over the past five years the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly has adopted 35 laws and recommendations. At today’s meeting in Moscow, a model law on countering terrorism was approved. Its main goals are to harmonise the legislation of CSTO member states in the field of combating terrorism and to regulate public relations in this sphere.

The law sets out the aims, objectives, principles and legal foundations of counterterrorism efforts, as well as measures to minimise or eliminate the consequences of terrorist acts. It defines the responsibilities of state bodies, and the duties and liability of the media regarding information and propaganda counteraction to terrorism.

The model law also outlines a nationwide system of measures to protect facilities from potential terrorist threats; the functions of national, interagency and territorial anti-terrorist bodies; and the obligations of managers and owners of high-risk and critical infrastructure facilities with regard to anti-terrorist protection.
