A local official in Vitsyebsk Region supported a local farmer, but the case eventually led to criminal charges. The representative of the local authorities is accused of exceeding his official powers.
According to the Interior Ministry, the farmer took out bank loans in 2023 and 2024. A 50-year-old representative of the local authorities instructed the heads of four state-owned agricultural enterprises to act as guarantors for the loans by pledging their machinery as collateral.
The farmer was unable to repay the loans. As a result, machinery belonging to the state-owned enterprises worth more than 550,000 Belarusian roubles was seized.
