The project of a Belarusian port in Murmansk is at the pre-investment stage. This was reported to SB.by by Deputy Governor — Minister for Arctic Development and Economy of the Murmansk Region Svetlana Panfilova.

“This is our flagship project, very significant and large. The investor — a Belarusian company — has already created a legal entity under our jurisdiction in order to obtain preferences available to enterprises operating in the Arctic zone: economic, tax, and administrative. At the moment, together with our colleagues, we are in close contact at the pre-investment stage of developing project solutions and determining how to provide this terminal with infrastructure,” the outlet quoted her as saying.

The agreement on building the Belarusian port terminal was signed in April 2024. The port’s capacity will be 25–30 million tonnes of cargo annually. The first shipments through the terminal are expected in 2028.

The report notes that the appearance of a Belarusian terminal requires solving a number of infrastructure issues. First and foremost, this concerns the railway’s throughput capacity. Commissioning the Belarusian terminal requires modernization of railways on both Russian and Belarusian territory. Ship-repair facilities will also need to be expanded, as the increased number of vessels entering the port will require high-quality servicing.
