Spokesperson for the State Border Committee of Belarus Anton Bychkouski stated that 96 cases of migrant deaths have been recorded in border areas since 2021. He made the remarks at today’s press conference titled “Strategic Priorities for Ensuring National Security of the Republic of Belarus: Efficiency and Effectiveness,” held at the House of Press.

According to him, combating illegal migration remains one of the key areas of Belarus’s migration policy, in which the State Border Committee plays an active role.

The committee representative accused neighboring EU countries of “confrontation and disregard for border cooperation issues,” alleging “cruel treatment of refugees” and the introduction of restrictions on border crossings. He reiterated that since 2021, 96 cases of migrant deaths have been identified in border regions.

“Since 2021, a total of 96 cases of migrant deaths have been recorded in border areas. Of these, seven people in 2021, nine in 2022, 31 in 2023, 25 in 2024, and already 24 in 2025,” he said.
