Hrodna police have reported on a demonstrative operation to expel four foreign nationals from Belarus. Foreign students were gathered at Hrodna State University in order to publicly announce the expulsion decisions.
“Four foreign nationals who committed gross administrative offences related to traffic regulations will return to their home countries without higher education diplomas. The decision on expulsion from the Republic of Belarus in the interests of public order was announced at a preventive event held at Kupala University,” the Hrodna Regional Executive Committee’s Internal Affairs Directorate said.
“One of them managed to create an emergency situation in the capital on Victory Day. At 8:30 a.m. on one of Minsk’s streets, while turning left on a green traffic signal, the young man failed to yield to oncoming traffic.
Another, instead of studying any academic discipline, also travelled to Minsk and at half past midnight, while reversing, failed to ensure road safety, which led to an emergency situation. Two more foreigners grossly violated traffic rules in Hrodna, which also resulted in accidents causing mechanical damage to vehicles,” senior inspector of the Citizenship and Migration Department of the October District Police Department in Hrodna, police major Volha Zhuk, said when describing the violations committed by the expelled foreigners.
All four foreign nationals were held administratively liable under Part 12 of Article 18.13 of the Administrative Code in the form of a fine and deprivation of the right to drive for varying periods. They paid the fines, but this did not prevent their expulsion, as the traffic violations were repeated. The foreigners have been banned from entering Belarus for two years.
