The Interior Ministry’s press service reported the detention of three residents of Asipovichy and Barysau. They stole a large sum of money on the territory of Russia.
“A 50-year-old resident of Asipovichy, acting in collusion with two residents of Barysau aged 23 and 37, and knowing about the planned transportation of a large amount of cash from our country to a neighbouring one, developed a theft plan. After following the vehicle carrying the money from the territory of Belarus, at a petrol station in the Smolensk region the suspects broke into the vehicle and stole nearly $130,000 in equivalent. They then returned home,” the Interior Ministry said.
The men were detained with the support of special forces from the Almaz unit. Two of the suspects had prior convictions. Part of the stolen money was seized from the detainees. The rest had been spent on real estate, leisure, and visits to gambling establishments.
A criminal case has been opened.
