Russia’s Foreign Ministry issued a statement announcing the start of what it described as the “consistent implementation of systematic strikes” on the centre of the Ukrainian capital. In this connection, Russia advised foreign nationals and diplomatic missions to leave the city.

The Russian side said its actions were in response to strikes by the Ukrainian Armed Forces on an academic building and a dormitory of the Luhansk State Pedagogical University college in Starobilsk on May 22. According to Russian diplomats, that strike “was the last straw”.

“Under the current circumstances, the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation are beginning the consistent implementation of systematic strikes against facilities of Ukraine’s military-industrial complex in Kyiv, including specific locations involved in the design, production, programming and preparation for the use of UAVs employed by the Kyiv regime with the assistance of NATO specialists responsible for supplying components, providing intelligence and target designation. Strikes will also target decision-making centres and command posts.

Given that the above-mentioned facilities are dispersed throughout Kyiv, we warn foreign nationals, including personnel of diplomatic missions and representatives of international organisations, of the need to leave the city as soon as possible, and advise residents of the Ukrainian capital not to approach military and administrative infrastructure facilities of the Zelenskyy regime”, the statement said.
