The number of attempts by migrants to cross into Poland from Belarus has fallen by 96%, according to a statement from the office of the country’s prime minister.
It said that 3,306 attempted border crossings were recorded in the first quarter of 2022. In January-March 2026, the number was just 158.
“The government’s decisive policy, record investments in border security and the work of Border Guard officers have led to a nearly 96% reduction in the number of migrants at the border with Belarus,” the prime minister’s office said.
The decline in the number of attempts was also linked to the suspension of the right to apply for asylum at the Belarusian border, which the Polish side believes migrants had been abusing.
“Migration is under control, but we are not losing vigilance. We continue to consistently invest in protecting the border with Belarus”, the office said.
It is worth noting that in recent days, attempts by migrants to cross the Belarusian borders with Lithuania and Latvia have increased. At the same time, Polish border guards have not recorded such activity on their section of the border. On Sunday, Lithuanian and Latvian border services reported 99 attempted crossings, while yesterday there were 11 in Lithuania and 27 in Latvia.
