The Belarusian Interior Ministry has reported on its monitoring of the spring sowing campaign, carried out on the instructions of Alyaksandr Lukashenka. As the ministry said, particular attention is being paid to the preservation and rational use of fertilisers.

During the sowing period, police detected more than 100 offences. In particular, officers of the economic crime unit in the Mahiliou region uncovered the fictitious write-off of more than 90 tonnes of potassium and phosphorus fertilisers. The aim of the scheme was the timely use of budget funds allocated under a state programme to address the consequences of the Chornobyl nuclear disaster. A criminal case has been opened against the enterprise’s chief agronomist. The misappropriated property has been fully recovered.

At the same time, storage sites for fertilisers are being inspected across the country. In every region, cases have been identified where fertilisers were stored in facilities with damaged roofs, collapsed walls or in the open air, leading to spoilage due to moisture. Local authorities have been informed of the violations. A total of 273 information letters have been sent to district executive committees regarding cases of mismanagement.
