The Belarusian citizen detained in Poland on espionage charges is 42 years old. This was announced at a briefing by Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesperson for the minister-coordinator of Poland’s special services.
Earlier today, Poland’s Internal Security Agency (ABW) and the National Prosecutor’s Office reported the detention on February 9 of a Belarusian citizen, Pavel T.. He has been charged with espionage in the interests of Belarusian military intelligence and has been remanded in custody for three months by a court.
“Officers of the Internal Security Agency detained a 42-year-old Belarusian. It turned out that this Belarusian is a typical modern spy. He was spying in Poland, as well as in Lithuania and Germany. This arrest became possible thanks to cooperation between Polish special services, namely the Internal Security Agency, as well as Lithuania and Germany, which is extremely important.
The exchange of information, experience, and knowledge on this issue led to the arrest of this 42-year-old Belarusian in Poland, in Warsaw. It was established that he collected information about important and strategic locations in Poland, Lithuania, and Germany. He processed, recorded, and transmitted it to his handlers in Belarus and Russia. Recently, Russian and Belarusian special services have become very active, and for effective counteraction, the exchange of information between special services is extremely important,” Dobrzyński said.
According to him, the Internal Security Agency currently has 92 suspects in cases involving espionage and sabotage. These include citizens of Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, and Poland.
Police spokesperson Katarzyna Nowak added that another suspect in an espionage case was detained last Saturday. He was wanted under a European arrest warrant. Investigative actions are currently being carried out with him.
