The National Bank of Belarus is working on integrating public services into banking mobile applications and creating a national biometric data bank. This was announced by Deputy Chairman of the National Bank’s Board Aliaksandr Yahorau.

According to him, the National Bank, together with the National Centre for Electronic Services, is exploring the possibility of providing public services and conducting administrative procedures through banks’ mobile applications.

“From our point of view, this will, on the one hand, significantly increase the digitalisation of this area in our country, and on the other hand, will give banks the opportunity to attract new clients by offering these services, and also to increase the product load on existing clients through already operating mobile applications”, he said.

At the same time, discussions are under way on creating a national biometric data bank as a reference identification system for both financial and non-financial sectors.

“This is probably the most secure method of customer identification — namely, the use of biometrics”, Yahorau said.

Within the ERIP system, he added, work is under way on a new system for data collection and analysis for online lending.

“We will be ready to provide our system, including under contractual arrangements, to commercial banks that are not ready to invest in biometric technologies, in order to offer various services, such as payments in retail and service organisations using biometrics”, the deputy chairman said.
