On July 23, Aliaksandr Lukashenka received a briefing from Security Council State Secretary Aliaksandr Valfovich and KGB Chairman Ivan Tertel.
“Today, the president also received a briefing from Security Council State Secretary Aliaksandr Valfovich and State Security Committee Chairman Ivan Tertel on issues related to Belarus’ defence and security,” Lukashenka’s press service said.
Lukashenka also made personnel appointments within the KGB on Thursday. The specific appointments were not disclosed publicly.
Lukashenka strengthened the role of the Security Council State Secretariat, and of Valfovich personally, within the KGB. According to him, key issues such as intelligence operations and agent networks will continue to be reported directly to him, while organisational and personnel matters will be overseen by Valfovich.
