During major renovation works on building No. 2 on Marata Street, the walls were insulated. One of them featured a well-known mural dedicated to the classic Belarusian writer Uladzimir Karatkevich. The artwork, which included a portrait of Uladzimir Syamionavich and fragments of his manuscripts with drawings — including the manuscript of the poem “Orsha” dedicated to his hometown — has been covered by construction materials.
The mural was created by Orsha artist Dzmitry Taukachou.
It was one of the city’s landmarks associated with the writer, a native of the area, “Vitsyebskaya Viasna” reports.
The mural was officially unveiled in November 2020 to mark the 90th anniversary of Uladzimir Karatkevich.
It is not known whether the mural will be restored. No official comments have been made.
