Moldova has begun the process of withdrawing from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and plans to denounce the relevant agreements, Foreign Minister Mihai Popșoi said in an interview with Radio Moldova.

The denunciation of the agreements is in the coordination stage, and the documents will be submitted to parliament in the near future. The move concerns the CIS Charter, the Agreement on the Establishment of the CIS, and its annex.

Popșoi noted that although Moldova no longer participates in the CIS de facto, it remains a member of the organization from a legal standpoint.

“With the denunciation of these three fundamental agreements, the Republic of Moldova will officially cease to be part of the CIS. This process has already begun, we took this decision recently, and the coordination procedure has been launched,” the foreign minister said.

He stressed that other CIS agreements that benefit the people of Moldova will remain in force.
