The Ministry of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade (MART) and retail chains have signed an agreement to extend the social discount for another six months.
The agreement provides for a discount of up to 10% on 29 groups of essential goods (bread, flour, rolled oats, pearl barley, pasta, beef, pork, whole chickens and broilers, milk, kefir, sour cream, cottage cheese, eggs, vegetables, and others) for vulnerable categories of the population.
“The agreement has been in force for four years already; this will be the fifth year. We extended it not for a quarter, but immediately for six months ahead. People see the stability of the state’s development and understand that no shocks are expected over the next six months. Business and the state trust each other, moving in the same direction, in close cooperation. Since the program began, more than 2.5 million cards have been issued, and the total amount of discounts provided has exceeded Br150 million. All of this is real support for socially vulnerable segments of the population, who actively make use of this opportunity,” said MART head Artur Karpovich.
