Remarkable transformations take place among Belarusian officials abroad — they turn into true patriots. For example, pro-Lukashenka Belarusian political party Belaya Rus Chairwoman Volha Chamadanava (Olga Chemodanova) has spent years fighting against national symbols, yet during trips to Myanmar she wears striking linen embroidered dresses in the traditional national white-red-white colors.
Another visit by a Belaya Rus delegation to Myanmar is taking place these days. Local media are covering the visit.
Yesterday, Aug. 14, the Belarusian delegation met in Naypyidaw with Speaker of the House of Representatives U Khin Yi. Chamadanava wore a white dress embroidered with red thread to the meeting. When Chamadanava was head of the press service of Belarus’ Interior Ministry, such an outfit could have been considered a “crime” — police reports treated similar clothing as picketing “in the white-red-white pattern.” “Picketing” included white-red-white socks, white-red-white stickers on a bicycle, a car decorated in “opposition” colors and a gable painted white and red.
On Friday, the Belarusian delegation was also received by Union Minister for Hotels, Tourism and Culture U Maung Myint. Representatives of Belaya Rus advised the minister to distribute “through the Myanmar Embassy in Belarus videos and photographs telling about Myanmar’s famous tourist attractions, culture and natural beauty, in order to raise awareness of the country among residents of Belarus and Belarusian tour operators”.
The last time Chamadanava headed a Belarusian delegation to Myanmar was in January 2026.
