Alyaksandr Lukashenka, during the protocol part of talks with US President’s Special Envoy for Belarus John Coale, said Belarus is ready to follow agreements regarding political prisoners.

As usual, Lukashenka stressed that there are no political articles in the country’s legislation.

“Where can we go from the issue that Chris is closely overseeing? The so-called political prisoners. Although I constantly try to convince you that we have no political articles and no political prisoners. There are only offenders,” he said, referring to Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Christopher Smith, who typically accompanies Coale at the talks.

“But we have discussed this issue remotely, in correspondence. I think that, in general, we have come to a certain understanding. And the Belarusian side is ready to follow our agreements. I think there will be no particular problems here, as with other items on our agenda,” Lukashenka added.

He also hinted at the possible launch of direct air links with the United States and proposed discussing his position on the situation in the Middle East, which he believes would be important for Donald Trump in connection with his operation against Iran.
