Former Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki is set to launch a new political party. Earlier, members of his association Development+ were expelled from the Law and Justice party.
In an interview on the YouTube channel “Rymanowski Live,” the former prime minister said the party would be established no later than Oct. 15. The first congress of the new political force is scheduled to take place in October.
The date was chosen deliberately. On Oct. 15, 2023, Poland held its most recent parliamentary election. Although Law and Justice won the largest share of the vote, it failed to secure enough seats to form a majority. As a result, the current coalition led by Donald Tusk came to power. Morawiecki is now in opposition to the current government.
“On that day, we will show that Poland is not doomed to chaos, mediocrity and broken promises. We will show that there is a force with the experience, courage, program and readiness to once again take responsibility for the country,” Morawiecki said.
Development+ recently held its first official event, where it presented two reports focusing on demographics and migration. To address Poland’s demographic challenges, Development+ proposes introducing a benefit for parents of children under the age of three equal to the minimum wage. Morawiecki and his colleagues argue that the program would provide stability for young families, while the time spent caring for a child at home would count toward pension contributions.
On migration, the association supports introducing quotas for work visas to be issued based on a points system and cultural affinity. It also proposes creating an agency modeled on the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that would be responsible for migration management and the deportation of people who violate residency laws.
