Summer is expected to be warmer than the long-term climate average across much of Belarus, while precipitation is likely to be below normal in many areas. The seasonal forecast was prepared by the North Eurasian Climate Forum, of which Belhydromet is a participant.

“The final wording of the seasonal forecast for this summer is that a positive air temperature anomaly is expected across most of Belarus with a probability of up to 60%, while temperatures in the north of the country are expected to remain within the climatic norm. As for precipitation, a deficit is forecast across most of the country with a probability also reaching 60%, rising to 75% in the far southwest. Only in northeastern Belarus is precipitation expected to remain within the climatic norm,” Maryna Hrytskevich, head of the Meteorological Forecasting Service, said at the Press House.

According to Hrytskevich, June is expected to be about one degree Celsius warmer than the long-term average, while precipitation during the first month of the calendar summer is forecast to remain within the climatic norm.
