This morning, at around 06:00, Latvia reported a possible threat in the country’s airspace over the Alūksne, Balvi, Krāslava, Ludza and Rēzekne districts. Anti-aircraft units deployed in the region, as well as NATO Baltic air policing mission fighter jets, were immediately activated.

The Latvian National Armed Forces confirmed that one unmanned aerial vehicle entered and later left Latvian airspace. At around 08:00, the threat was declared over.

The military emphasized that together with NATO allies they are constantly monitoring the airspace. Additional air defense assets have been reinforced along the eastern border.

“As long as Russian aggression against Ukraine continues, similar incidents may recur, when a foreign unmanned aerial vehicle enters or approaches Latvian airspace,” the armed forces stated.
