The independent initiative Open Muzej is preparing a book that will bring together analytical and critical studies of developments in the Belarusian art scene between 2015 and 2025. The texts will be written by participants in the special online laboratory “Revision and Collection,” whose application deadline has been extended until June 15.
The project’s main goal is to overcome the fragmentation and vulnerability of knowledge about contemporary Belarusian art, which has become scattered across different countries as a result of repression and forced emigration.
The organizers are proposing an experimental model: creating a working community of critics, curators and art historians who will collectively map the key figures, events and phenomena that have shaped Belarusian art over the past decade.
Recognizing that preparing such a publication requires a thorough approach, the organizers have deliberately given prospective contributors more time to formulate their topics and have extended the application period until June 15.
How Will the Book Be Created?
Work on the volume will continue throughout the summer in the format of a horizontal laboratory. Participants will take part in:
- Six online seminars with international experts to establish the project’s theoretical framework;
- Two collaborative mapping sessions focused on artistic processes and developments;
- Six working meetings in the format of writing groups for the joint discussion and review of texts.
The materials will be developed through the lens of contemporary research approaches, ranging from decolonial and gender theory to analyses of transnationalism, diaspora experiences and the deconstruction of established artistic narratives.
