The Council of Ministers has adopted a resolution tightening technical requirements for alcoholic products subject to mandatory conformity assessment through certification.

The document will enter into force three months after its publication. The resolution is expected to be published in the near future.

As reported by the government’s press service, the resolution provides for:

  • limits on the content of quinine and hydrocyanic acid in alcoholic products;
  • limits on the content of methanol in tequila and mezcal;
  • a ban on the use of ingredients, substitution of grape varieties or their blending if not provided for in the documents under which the alcoholic product is manufactured;
  • a ban on adding ethyl alcohol from non-food raw materials to alcoholic products, and synthetic dyes to cognac, cognac-based drinks, brandy and divin;
  • additional technical requirements for whisky and wines through the expansion of the list of national and interstate standards used for compliance checks during mandatory certification.
