Around 350 people were detained near Rasony on July 29, according to Vitsiebskaya Viasna. According to preliminary information, those detained were participants in the annual Rainbow Family gathering, which brings together people who advocate harmonious coexistence with nature, an alternative way of life and opposition to the conventions of capitalist society.
Rainbow Family gatherings are usually held in sparsely populated natural areas. Participants set up tent camps near bodies of water and spend time together.
According to the rights group, entire families were detained. Children were among those detained, and several minors spent the night in a temporary detention facility together with adults.
Administrative reports were drawn up against the detainees for participating in an unauthorized mass event. They were informed that court hearings would take place within the next two months.
