Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s Office has confirmed receiving a request from the Office of the President regarding the possibility of opening a criminal case against Aliaksandr Lukashenka. The information was confirmed by Mariana Haiovska-Kovbasiuk, head of the Information Policy and Communications Department of the Prosecutor General’s Office, reports Ukrinform.
According to her, the request was registered on July 30, 2026. It is currently under review.
“The applicants will be notified of the outcome of the review in accordance with the procedure established by law,” she said.
The Prosecutor General’s Office has not opened any criminal cases against Lukashenka so far.
As previously reported, the Office of the President of Ukraine recently forwarded to the Prosecutor General’s Office a request from the Belarus Democratic Forces Forum asking it to open a criminal case against Lukashenka. The Forum, founded by Valery Tsapkala, requested a legal assessment of Lukashenka’s actions “in connection with his role in supporting Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, the use of Belarusian territory for the invasion by Russian troops, and other actions.”
The authors of the request asked the authorities to consider opening criminal proceedings under a number of articles of Ukraine’s Criminal Code, including those covering the waging of an aggressive war, war crimes, financing terrorism, encroachment on Ukraine’s territorial integrity, war propaganda and genocide.
During a visit to Kyiv in January 2026, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya discussed with Volodymyr Zelenskyy the possibility of holding Lukashenka accountable, including for the deportation of Ukrainian children.
