People’s Militia “Detains” Mustached Man in Soly Village

Members of the people’s militia “detained” a mustached man in the agricultural town of Soly during a training exercise on July 31 held as part of the district territorial defense command training plan. Photos from the event were published by the local newspaper Svetly Shlyakh.

“Volunteers ready to defend the country if necessary gathered to refresh their knowledge of the law, review the rules for handling weapons, and practice their practical skills,” the report said.

One of the photographs shows the mustached man being handcuffed at gunpoint. Adding to the comic nature of the scene is the fact that the “suspect” is wearing a T-shirt reading “The Best Grandpa.”

The event was attended by Siarhei Kuzmenka, head of the territorial defense group at the military commissariat, and Aleh Rudoj, senior inspector for licensing work at the Smarhon District Department of Internal Affairs.

“The volunteers were briefed on the legal framework governing their activities in the people’s militia. They were also informed about the procedures for receiving weapons and ammunition, their distribution, assignment and record-keeping, as well as safety requirements for handling weapons and ammunition. It is encouraging to see dedicated people who, regardless of their age, are eager to assist and support their country’s Armed Forces in carrying out assigned tasks.

Particular attention during the training was devoted to practical exercises. Under the guidance of district police officers, the volunteers practiced disassembling and assembling a Kalashnikov assault rifle, shooting techniques and movements, as well as providing first aid to the wounded. In addition, they practiced searching and detaining suspicious individuals,” a representative of the military commissariat said.
