While attending the World Economic Forum in Davos, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya met with the President of the United Nations General Assembly, Annalena Baerbock.
The head of the United Transitional Cabinet thanked her interlocutor for the support she had provided in her previous role as Germany’s foreign minister and expressed hope that her new position would make it possible to draw greater attention to humanitarian issues and human rights violations in Belarus.
The politician spoke about the situation surrounding the release of political prisoners, the state of security, as well as the challenges faced by Belarusians. She noted the role of the United States and the European Union in Belarus-related matters and expressed hope that they would remain on the United Nations agenda.
“I am always glad to meet and speak with Ms Baerbock. I greatly value her work, determination, activity and willingness to address even the most complex crises in the world. The United Nations General Assembly is an important platform for Belarus, and it is very important that issues of concern to Belarusians are discussed there and find solutions,” Tsikhanouskaya said following the meeting.
