Political prisoner Pavel Belaus has been transferred to Mahiliou prison No. 4. According to former political prisoners, he was transferred back in February without his belongings and without an identification tag, human rights center Viasna reported.

Human rights defenders believe there is a possibility that a new criminal case has been opened against Belous.

Pavel Belaus is the founder of the national symbols store symbal.by. In May 2023, he was sentenced to 13 years in prison. Belous was accused of treason, organizing and preparing actions that grossly violate public order, calling for sanctions and leading an extremist formation.

According to the investigation, Belaus had for 10 years from 2011 “conducted active activities aimed at changing state power through unconstitutional means,” “endangered the external and internal security of the state”, and “under the guise of cultural and historical development, spread ideas of Belarusian nationalism on various publicly accessible social networks and websites, with the goal of changing state power in Belarus”.
