The Supreme Court has reviewed the appeal filed by the former management of the Baranavichy-based newspaper Intex-Press, the Belarusian Association of Journalists reported.
On February 26 this year, the Brest Regional Court handed down a guilty verdict against Uladzimir Yanukevich, the newspaper’s editor-in-chief, and Andrei Pakalenka, its deputy director. The former managers of the BAR24 news portal in Baranavichy, previously the independent newspaper Intex-Press, were found guilty of “high treason” under Article 356 of the Criminal Code. Yanukevich was sentenced to 14 years in prison, while Pakalenka received a 12-year prison sentence. Both were also ordered to pay substantial fines.
On June 8, the Supreme Court reviewed the appeal. Yanukevich’s sentence was upheld without changes. Pakalenka’s sentence was reduced by one year to 11 years in prison.
