The State Control Committee has uncovered an illegal care home in the Homiel region. According to the committee’s press service, the provision of residential care for elderly people is subject to licensing, but such services were being provided without special authorisation in the region.

“At the same time, some individuals disregard these requirements and, for personal gain, organise illegal ‘care homes’ in their own residences. Such a case was identified by financial investigation authorities in the Homiel region”, the committee said.

According to the agency, a resident of Rečyca provided such services in her home for more than 10 elderly people over a period of two years.

“The homeowner did not obtain the required licence confirming that the conditions she created met the standards for the provision and quality of social services.

The woman received payments both from relatives of the ‘residents’ and by withdrawing their pensions from bank card accounts. The illegally obtained income exceeded 135,000 roubles”, the committee added.

A criminal case has been opened for conducting business activities without a licence.
