Russian authorities have seized and destroyed 20.4 tonnes of lard from Belarus. The shipment, transported from the Minsk region to Moscow, was accompanied by a falsified veterinary certificate.

The vehicle carrying the lard was stopped in the Smolensk region on March 13. The Stolbtsy Meat Processing Plant was listed as the producer. The driver presented a veterinary certificate bearing falsified marks of veterinary control at an official entry point. In addition, the pallets lacked inspection stamps confirming that veterinary and sanitary checks had been carried out by the Belarusian veterinary service, Rosselkhoznadzor reported.

Rosselkhoznadzor contacted Belarus’s Department of Veterinary and Food Supervision. The agency did not confirm the origin and safety of the products stated in the accompanying documents.

The lard was destroyed on April 21. The carrier was held administratively liable.
