The Prosecutor’s Office of the Mahilyow Region reported on inspections of school canteens carried out together with specialists from hygiene and epidemiology centres. According to the findings, “overall school catering complies with paediatric dietary principles and sanitary-epidemiological requirements”, but a number of violations were nevertheless identified.
The most common issues included:
— discrepancies between actual menus and the standardised two-week meal plans in terms of portion size and assortment;
— lack of proper production control;
— failure to comply with sanitary and epidemiological regimes in food preparation areas;
— the use of deformed kitchen utensils and chipped dishes.
Schools were also found to delay repairs of technological and refrigeration equipment.
In one Babruysk school inspectors discovered expired pearl barley as well as “vegetables showing signs of rot and repeated freezing”. Prosecutors published a photo of decaying tomatoes to illustrate the findings.
