Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya will address the high-level conference “Belarus: Building the Foundations for Democratic Change” today in Brussels.
The event is organised by the European Parliament and the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA), with support from the European Commission and the European External Action Service.
EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Kaja Kallas will take part. Other speakers include the head of the EP’s delegation for relations with Belarus Małgorzata Gosiewska, EP Vice-President Nicolae Ștefănuță, and Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos.
Panels will examine prospects and challenges of democratic reforms, their potential impact on Belarus’s political landscape, and the role of civil society in driving change.
According to the organisers, the goal is to support conceptual work on reforms in Belarus by creating a platform for dialogue between the Belarusian democratic movement, Members of the European Parliament, the European Commission, the EEAS, legal experts, and representatives of international organisations and EU member states.
