Polish Security Services Detain Two Ukrainian Citizens on Suspicion of Espionage

Poland’s Internal Security Agency, in cooperation with the Military Counterintelligence Service, has detained two Ukrainian citizens in Katowice on suspicion of espionage.

“A 32-year-old man and a 34-year-old woman carried out intelligence tasks, including identifying Poland’s military potential and installing devices for covert surveillance of critical infrastructure. The information they collected concerned personnel of the Polish Armed Forces and critical infrastructure located in Poland, including transport facilities supporting the logistics and military assistance of war-torn Ukraine,” said Jacek Dobrzyński, spokesperson for the minister-coordinator of special services.

The suspects were detained on October 14. Their activities allegedly took place between May 2023 and August 2025.

Charges have been filed, and a court has ordered their detention for three months.

A week earlier, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced the arrest of eight people on suspicion of espionage and sabotage. On the same day, security services revealed information about three Ukrainian nationals — one detained near Warsaw and two others in Romania. According to the services, they had organized the shipment of packages containing flammable and explosive materials.

Later, the authorities reported the detention of two Ukrainian citizens in Biała Podlaska. Police discovered drugs during a routine inspection of one suspect, while a check of the second man’s phone revealed evidence of cooperation with a foreign intelligence service.

Previously, Dobrzyński also reported the detention of another individual in connection with an arson incident.
