Meteorologists Issue Orange Alert Due to Sharp Cold Snap

Meteorologists have issued an orange-level weather warning due to a sharp drop in temperatures.

“On the night of December 23 (Tuesday), a sharp change in weather conditions is expected in the Vitebsk Region, with a significant cooling: minimum air temperatures will range from minus 7 to minus 12 degrees Celsius,” the warning says.

Tomorrow, weather conditions will be influenced by a weak frontal boundary moving against the background of a high-pressure area, followed by the inflow of air masses from northern latitudes. At night it will be cloudy with some clear spells, while during the day skies will be partly cloudy. At night and in the morning in some places, and during the day mainly in the southwest of the country, light short-term snow and wet snow are expected.

At night and in the morning, light fog is forecast in some areas across the country. Icy conditions are possible on certain stretches of roads. Winds will be northwesterly, shifting to northeasterly overnight, light to moderate at night and moderate during the day. Minimum nighttime temperatures will range from minus 12 degrees Celsius in the northeast to plus 2 degrees in the southwest of the country. Maximum daytime temperatures will be between minus 2 and minus 8 degrees, and from minus 1 to plus 2 degrees in southern and southwestern areas.

In the following days, frosty weather will set in. On Wednesday, minimum nighttime temperatures will be minus 8 to minus 15 degrees, with some areas cooling to minus 18 degrees. Maximum daytime temperatures will range from minus 3 to minus 10 degrees.

On Thursday, minimum nighttime temperatures will range from minus 5 degrees in the north to minus 13 degrees in the south, locally down to minus 16 degrees. Maximum daytime temperatures will be between minus 6 and plus 1 degree.
