Information about the Day of Dignity — a solidarity event to be held in the Polish capital on Aug. 9 — will be displayed on Warsaw’s public transport network from Aug. 5 to 9.
The United Transitional Cabinet said that the initiative was approved by Warsaw City Hall following an appeal by Deputy Head of the Cabinet and Head of the National Anti-Crisis Management Pavel Latushka, with the support of the Cabinet’s Representation for National Revival.
Public transport vehicles will display information about the event and an official invitation to take part. The organisers say this will help remind Warsaw residents and visitors of the events of 2020 in Belarus and the continuing struggle for democratic change.
“For the thousands of Belarusians who have found refuge in Poland, this decision is further proof that Warsaw, like Poland as a whole, remembers our struggle for a free Belarus and supports it. We highly value this solidarity and the willingness to help ensure that the voice of the Belarusian people is heard as widely as possible,” Pavel Latushka said.
“The solidarity between the Polish and Belarusian peoples is most evident at moments like these. Despite persecution in their homeland, Belarusians are able to gather together and remind the world that the struggle for freedom and democracy continues, right in the centre of Warsaw. We thank the Polish public authorities for their responsiveness and productive cooperation in preparing to mark the sixth anniversary of the protests,” said the Cabinet’s Representative for National Revival, Pavel Barkouski.
It was previously reported that on Aug. 9, from 6:00 p.m. until midnight, the facade of Warsaw’s Palace of Culture and Science will be illuminated in the white-red-white colours.
