The chairman of the Mahiliou Regional Executive Committee, Anatol Isachanka, has again discussed the opening of a branch of the Russian Embassy in Mahiliou with Vladimir Vanke, minister-counsellor of the Russian diplomatic mission.
“Without a doubt, the opening of a branch of the Embassy of the Russian Federation in Mahiliou will help strengthen economic, interregional and cultural ties. Belarusian Foreign Minister Maksim Ryzhankou accurately noted that opening Russian embassy branches in the regions provides diplomacy within easy reach,” Isachanka said.
The decision to open embassy branches in Vitsyebsk, Homiel and Mahiliou was made in November last year. In January, the Russian Foreign Ministry announced the plans. In February, a meeting was already held in Mahiliou. At that time, a delegation led by Vanke held talks with the leadership of the Mahiliou Regional and City Executive Committees.
“There are people with limited mobility, and there are Russian citizens who permanently reside here. The region is visited by tourists from Russia and specialists on economic missions — all of them need diplomatic support and assistance.
There are also local residents who may need help. This will eliminate issues related to waiting times, appointments and electronic queues. Therefore, it is very important that people can receive the necessary consultations on site,” Vanke explained today, outlining the need for the embassy branch.
Isachanka also noted that Russia is the region’s main partner. Seventy-eight Russian regions purchase products from Mahiliou Region. Cooperation agreements have been signed with 29 constituent entities of the Russian Federation.
