In December, Organizations Again Laid Off More People Than They Hired

In December, organizations in Belarus laid off 1,548 more people than they hired. The balance for the full 12 months also remained in favor of layoffs, according to new data published by Belstat. The report does not include data on micro and small enterprises without departmental subordination. In November, the number of people hired had exceeded the number of layoffs.

In December, 48,500 people were hired, while slightly more than 50,000 were dismissed. As a result, the number of layoffs exceeded hires by 1,548.

Over the full 12 months, the balance was also in favor of layoffs. A total of 754,100 people were hired, while 768,600 were dismissed, meaning layoffs exceeded hires by 14,500.

In December, the number of hires increased by 16.5 percent compared with the same period in 2024, and by 16 percent over the full 12 months.

The number of layoffs in December rose by 19.1 percent compared with the same month in 2024, and by 12.5 percent over the 12-month period.

In December, a negative balance in favor of layoffs was recorded in industry (-284), information and communications (-12), agriculture, forestry, and fishing (-939), education (-516), and healthcare (-339).

A positive balance in favor of hiring in December was observed in trade (+878), construction (+56), financial and insurance activities (+73), and transport and logistics (+153).

Over the 12-month period, layoffs exceeded hires in agriculture, forestry, and fishing (-6,311), healthcare (-595), manufacturing (-9,773), transport and logistics (-5,753), public administration (-95), and education (-3,772).

A positive hiring balance for January–December was recorded in information and communications (+1,737), construction (+4,685), temporary accommodation and food services (+1,438), and trade (+616).
