In the coming days residents of Minsk may notice a helicopter flying over the city. Minskenergo has warned about the annual aerial survey of the capital’s heating networks.
The survey will be carried out by a helicopter of the Emergencies Ministry. It will fly at an altitude of 500–600 meters. The aircraft is equipped with special thermal imaging equipment. Flights will be conducted in the evening and at night, Minskenergo said.
“This is necessary to obtain accurate data: during the day heavy traffic on major roads creates thermal interference that prevents proper diagnostics of underground communications,” the company explained.
The flight schedule will be determined depending on weather conditions.
The aerial survey makes it possible to identify damaged sections of pipelines and their thermal insulation, possible flooding of heating chambers and channels, and other faults in the heating network.
