The Interior Ministry reported the detention of a 21-year-old resident of the Vitsyebsk region on charges of inciting hatred and discord.
According to the Interior Ministry, the young man held “nationalist and protest views” and posted comments and images on social media “about harming veterans of the Great Patriotic War, as he believed there was no heroism in their actions”.
The Interior Ministry cited one of the detainee’s comments (spelling and punctuation preserved): “The meme is funny, but there’s no need to make heroes out of them, they fought for the Gulag and executions, and if you count it all up, Stalin killed more people during his rule than Addy and that’s obvious”.
“He also posted photographs featuring a portrait of Adolf Hitler on social media with the aim of glorifying his personality,” the Interior Ministry claims.
The young man was detained by officers of GUBOPiK with force support from the Vityaz special unit. A criminal case has been opened for deliberate actions aimed at inciting social hatred or discord.
