The EU Council has decided to temporarily liberalize trade with Armenia. As a result, import duties on 80% of Armenian exports to the European Union will be eliminated. The preferences will remain in effect for two years.
The Council’s press service said the tariff cuts cover 99% of Armenian export tariff lines for fresh fruit, vegetables and plants to Russia, as well as 91% of beverages and alcoholic drinks.
The proposal was adopted to support Armenia amid trade restrictions imposed by Russia.
The European Parliament must now adopt its position on trade liberalization with Armenia. The decision will then be officially signed and published before entering into force.
