Couple Hide Excess Cash in Tissues While Entering Belarus From Poland

Belarusian customs officers have thwarted another attempt to bring money across the border without declaring it.

According to the State Customs Committee, a married couple was travelling from Poland through the Berastavitsa border checkpoint. Knowing that amounts exceeding $10,000 must be declared, the couple decided to circumvent the restriction by claiming that each of them was carrying an amount just below that threshold.

“During a customs inspection, officers found an additional $3,500 in the woman’s bag and $2,400 in the man’s bag. The money had been wrapped in tissues and packed in bags,” the statement said.

Administrative proceedings have been initiated. The concealed funds have been seized pending a court decision.
