Dzianis Dzienisenka, Convicted In Absentia, Added To Belarusian “Terrorist List”

The Belarusian KGB has added Dzianis Dzienisenka, who was convicted in absentia, to its “terrorist list”. Two Iraqi citizens were also added to the list on the basis of relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.

In December last year, a court found Dzienisenka guilty in absentia under Part 2 of Article 293 of the Criminal Code (mass riots). He was sentenced to four years in a general-regime penal colony. On 20 February, the Brest Regional Court rejected the appeal in the case and upheld the sentence.

Being added to the terrorist list means that money transfers to the prisoner are prohibited.

The Belarusian authorities regularly use accusations of extremism and terrorism to target political opponents and dissent in general.
