Currency Supply Exceeded Demand by USD 1.5 Billion in 2025

Currency supply in 2025 exceeded demand by USD 1.516 billion, according to new foreign exchange market statistics published by the National Bank. For comparison, in 2024 demand exceeded supply by USD 22.7 million.

The total volume of the foreign exchange market last year amounted to USD 134.79 billion, an increase of 21.3 percent compared to 2024.

By year’s end, individuals bought USD 12.95 billion worth of currency and sold USD 14.58 billion, providing a net supply of USD 1.63 billion.

Banks bought USD 70.67 billion and sold USD 70.975 billion, generating a net supply of USD 301.9 million.

Non-residents bought USD 2.825 billion and sold USD 4.7 billion, forming a net supply of USD 1.89 billion.

Resident business entities bought USD 39.76 billion and sold USD 37.45 billion in 2025, making them net buyers of currency in the amount of USD 2.3 billion.

Foreign exchange turnover in December reached USD 14.3 billion — the highest monthly turnover in recent years. For comparison, in December 2024 market turnover amounted to USD 10.7 billion. In December 2025, currency supply exceeded demand by USD 118.2 million.

Individuals bought USD 1.33 billion in December and sold USD 1.445 billion. Monthly volumes of buying and selling by the population were the highest of the year. Individuals provided a net supply of USD 115.2 million.

Banks bought USD 7.56 billion and sold USD 7.65 billion during the month, ensuring a net supply of USD 90.2 million.

Non-residents bought USD 278.1 million in December and sold USD 507.9 million, becoming net sellers of USD 229.8 million.

Finally, Belarusian business entities bought USD 4.415 billion and sold USD 4.1 billion in December, making them net buyers of USD 317 million.
