Chemical Substance Leaks From Container at Railway Station Near Minsk

(updated) Toluene diisocyanate leaked from drums stored inside a container on a railway flatcar at a station in the Minsk District.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene. The railcar was detached from the train and moved to a section of track where the drums could be unloaded and the source of the leak identified.

No injuries were reported. Freight and passenger train services were not delayed, the Emergency Situations Ministry reported.

An inspection found that four of the 200-litre drums had been damaged. One of the drums was completely empty. The spill of the hazardous substance inside the container was neutralized using soda ash.

The damaged drums were reloaded into the container by the consignee and will be transported to their destination by road.
