Zelenskyy Says Lukashenka Refused to Transfer Political Prisoners Via EU Countries

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on Ukraine’s involvement in the process of releasing Belarusian political prisoners. Answering a question from Current Time, he said that Alyaksandr Lukashenka refused to transfer political prisoners through European Union countries and therefore turned to Ukraine.

At the level of intelligence services, the countries were communicating. Then the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Kyrylo Budanov, came to me and said that the Belarusians were ready to hand over political prisoners, but did not want to do so through one or another European Union country, and that if I supported it, they were ready to transfer them through Ukraine. I said that we certainly support this and are ready to receive them, because the issue of political prisoners is important, the Ukrainian leader said on Sunday aboard a plane flying to talks in Berlin.
