Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy believes that Aliaksandr Lukashenka has enough common sense not to allow himself to be drawn into the war. He made the remarks in an interview with the Financial Times published on July 6.
Zelenskyy compared Lukashenka to a gambler who bet everything on Russia completely destroying Ukraine.
“He came to the casino on the wrong day. He was convinced he would hit the jackpot. But he won nothing,” Zelenskyy said.
According to the Ukrainian president, Lukashenka now understands the risks and will not allow himself to be dragged into the war.
“The good news is that, unlike Putin, I believe he understands the risks. He fully understands all the risks.
If you realize that the war has not been won, and suddenly you are being pulled even deeper into it as an ally, then I think he has enough common sense to understand that he should not allow himself to be dragged into it,” Zelenskyy said.
Earlier today, Lukashenka assured military officers that he would not send them “into the slaughter” and claimed that the “international party of war” does not want the conflict to end.
