Without “Peremen”: “Approved” Kino Songs Selected For Karaoke Clubs In Belarus

As Nasha Niva has learned, songs by the bands “Zveri” and “Gradusy” are returning to Belarusian karaoke clubs. Even the band “Kino” has been removed from the blacklist of artists — but with one caveat.

It is worth recalling that in March, Nasha Niva published an updated blacklist of artists whose songs are banned from being performed in Belarus. The list included not only Ukrainian stars and opponents of Vladimir Putin’s regime, but also ardent Z-patriots. In particular, the bands “Zveri” and “Gradusy,” which actively perform in the occupied territories of Ukraine, were added to it.

Now ideologists have decided to revise the list and remove three groups from it.

While the situation with “Gradusy” and “Zveri” proved straightforward, specific requirements emerged regarding the legacy of Viktor Tsoi and “Kino.” Formally, the band has been released from censorship, but with a telling reservation: the song “Peremen” is strictly prohibited from being performed.

The cult composition, which became a symbol of the 2020 protests, apparently continues to alarm the authorities’ ideologists. Thus, Belarusians have been allowed “Gruppa Krovi” and “Zvezda po imeni Solntse,” but have been reminded: no changes — even within a karaoke club.
