Utility services recorded the sharpest price increase in April, according to data from Belstat. It should be recalled that this year’s annual increase in housing and utility tariffs took effect on March 1, meaning Belarusians made their first payments under the new tariffs in April.
In April, municipal solid waste disposal charges increased by 23.12%, sewage services by 20.55%, cold water supply by 19.47%, residential maintenance services by 19.31%, and elevator use fees by 12.31%. Overall, housing and utility services rose by 10.23%, gas prices by 7.08%, and electricity supply tariffs by 7.01%.
Compared with March, the sharpest price declines in April were recorded for sweet peppers, down 17.36%, avocados, down 9.58%, fresh cucumbers, down 8.38%, and fresh flowers, down 7.13%. Funeral services became 6.41% cheaper over the month.
Since the beginning of the year, the steepest price increases were recorded for fresh tomatoes (+13.66%), grapes (+31.5%), suburban bus fares (+29.88%), municipal solid waste disposal charges (+23.12%), and international postal shipments (+20.95%).
Compared with December, the sharpest price declines in April were recorded for citrus fruits (-14.57%), apples (-12.69%), fresh cucumbers (-11.82%), circus tickets (-7.48%), and polished rice (-4.03%).
