On the evening of May 1, Lithuanian border guards intercepted two drones carrying cigarettes that had flown in from Belarus, the country’s State Border Guard Service reported.
A border patrol on duty near the village of Versekele heard the sound of a drone and spotted an aircraft moving away from the border deeper into Lithuanian territory. The drone was forced to land. A package containing 200 packs of cigarettes was attached to it.
A second drone was detected three hours later by a video surveillance system near the village of Prudelis. It was also brought down using anti-drone equipment. The unmanned aircraft was carrying two boxes containing 1,000 packs of cigarettes.
The total value of the cigarettes is estimated at 6,612 euros. Two administrative cases have been opened.
